refinements _ line up _ YEY !!!

only accessories to go. but will try and lay out other boards first.

and need to re-order the layout.

that is all.

<3

refinements _ line up _ ALMOST DONE !!!!

almost there !!! it has taken forever but one more outfit to render completely and then add the faces and some accessories then BOOM. YUSS !!!!!!

but yes, aside from the excitement, i went through many face drawings and decided this as my final one. it has attitude, it it fun and super cool. i think i will leave the faces as sketches for now. if i have time i will color them but i think the more mute they are, the more the outfits stand out and that is what i am wanting.

refinements _ line up cont.

i think it is again time to update this blog. as you can see, for the past few days there hasn't been anything as it has actually taken this long to try and get the rendering of the fabrics and making sure the shading is perfect etc. not to mention only being taught layer masks on THIS THURSDAY'S class .

i must say however, learning about the layer masks has made things so much faster and easier but still super time consuming with trying to make the fabrics on the outfits look like what they would look like if it were real .

i have only done four out of the eight... and it's taken me four days... i'm not going to make it :'[

result ____

hopefully they are working, as i have adjusted the colors many times and so far it is what looks best .

refinements _ outfit seven

learning about layer masks and utilising them was A TOTAL DISASTER. i got way confused and it took me ages to try and work out how to do it. but finally it was achieved. it seems to be working that's for sure... but i feel like it just took way too long .

anyway, apart from that.

experimentation _ more fabric swatches

today has been quite hectic, i went to global fabrics and looked around for some winter weight coat fabrics and was satisfied with the result. there were some very nice fabrics...but i couldn't afford to buy a whole lot which meant that i just got some samples. i also found some orange fabrics that i could possibly use also, along with the orange yarn that i have previously worked with .

i also found organic cotton which was FANTASTIC !!! i would have bought some to work with however, they only had dull blues and browns where i am wanting to work with a white. i have a substitute fabric to make the prototypes with, but my designs would be made out of the organic cotton if it were 'real life' you could say .

refinements _ concept board

finalising my concept board and tidying bits and pieces up for it as it is probably about time to do that. also in class yesterday a very valid point came up ... what is my point of difference ??!! i didn't have one but the teacher suggested that because my concept is about melting ice caps due to global warming, i could consider the effects on the environment ... which i have kind of and my whole aim is for the issue to be a lighter approach, to inform and have fun rather than to stress out and die .

and she mentioned that i could look into sustainable fabrics etc. i think this could be quite a fantastic idea, and so i will look into it, but what i am doing is considering paper stock which is recycled to make a difference in that aspect for now. i choose this idea as advertising on print is generally very cheap if the quality i mass produced and harmful chemicals are used to "whiten" the paper. i want to utilise recycled natural paper in my boards as i do not know if i will be able to find organic cottons etc. i will try but we'll see .

anyway, i have attached my concept board on white paper and what it could possibly look like if it was to be printed on an off white recycled stock .

concept board _ white ____

concept board _ recycled paper stock ____

the size remains at standard a3 however the shape inside is ragged and i have chosen to not full flush print it. my collection and concept is about shapes and excitement and i believe that if it is all to the edges and standard, it will not be as exciting :]

that is all i have for now .

<3

refinements _ sheer skirt color

okay... so posting everything i do... seems a little ridiculous... i don't even know if i should be uploading the tiny miniscule adjustments i am making. but then if i don't, what am i to do ??!! so i guess i am just going to do these ones and then i will upload everything else together. such as each of the outfits .

it would be so nice to get a second opinion on everything but it is probably too late for that and plus it feels like there is still so much to do but not enough time to finish everything !!! -freaking out right now-

and also SO MANY COLOR COMBINATIONS THAT I MUST TRY THEM OUT BEFORE CHOOSING A FINAL. just so much to consider .

however this is my sheer skirt design that i am working on, a comparison of the outline and the non outline. actually, after looking at it all this time, i think i like the second one. it gives a lighter, more care free feeling whereas the first one is quite dark and depressing .

sorted _ awesome _ NEXT !

<3

refinements _ sweater color

finally starting on some color. i have been waiting for this chance for so long. i mean i could have done it ages ago when i started with the conceptualizing of each of the garments, but i'm glad i've left it until now as i can experiment heaps with this .

i know i should be 'rendering' the fabrics in for the desired effect but for the original line up, the images are going to be small and the outfits smaller that you won't really be able to see the difference anyway unless you magnify the fabric to show that it is woven or knitted etc the overall look is much realistic. i mean, unless the design shows that from far away you can see the exact details then yes, that should be done. such as chunky knits or huge prints etc .

at the moment anyway, this is what i have done. a sweater with two variations of color, i could go on but i think these two are the best. i just can't decide on one . . .

i think i may work on some fabric prototypes on this garment just to test. soon .

developments _ line up _ draft

doing my line up was both fun and exhausting. trying to make sure that each garment was on its own layer and making sure that they looked good as an outfit was a bit of a struggle. but it was fun adjusting elements of the garments and detailing to suit .

the next stage i need to definitely take is to play with color. color is a huge element for me and i love it heaps which means it might be quite fun. i am looking forward to getting to that stage. i will still have to keep going with accessories as well. AHHH !! so much to do !!!

<3

developments _ finalising sweaters

another aspect that i really wanted to look into was sweaters and a warmer layer. i also decided that a hoodie is a must. it is what everyone would want and buy. so that is a keeper. the only other thing is i will HAVE to think of something to put on the front . . .

that can wait. again i am putting the actual garments first .

and i think i will definitely have a woollen sweater too. i think just something i want. i could also make it unisex, that could be quite exciting but we will have to see .

<3

developments _ finalising "the coat"

designing a coat is so important. it can't just be something slapped together as it seems like the main garment in a collection, especially in a winter collection. i think people are more inclined to spend more money on a nice winter coat than they are to buy a light top for the colder season.

i guess this is the main reason why i spent more time on it. and i am glad. i love to have a visual of what other options are available and for me this is the best way to judge .

<3

developments _ finalising skirts

choosing to do skirts is mostly a personal decision as i think they are fun, and can be both casual and dressy. they are so versatile, in my opinion just fantastic !

so i took some inspiration from my previous assignment and continued on with that. i still want to keep some of the elements but made to suit this chosen audience .

after these, i actually quite like all of them... and might use them all unless i can think of any others. but if i can't, i am more than happy to put these forward .

<3

developments _ finalising singlets

singlets are almost a staple item in a wardrobe. i say almost because some people just don't like them but for me, i think they are comfy and scream street wear, well scream next to tees anyway. they work for both men and women and i just wanted to explore again shapes and just different styles .

<3

developments _ finalising tops

i decided to keep the shape and the design of the first shirt as it feels and looks like it is appropriate for my target audience . i asked someone if it looked like it is street wear and he said yes so i'm taking that as awesome .

there are many other things to consider right now including prints and all sorts but i think i want to just focus on the shape and silhouette first .

<3

developments _ tops, bottoms and outer

after doing concepts of each layer, it was time to break it down further and start onto the more defined areas such as tops, bottoms and outer, for example, coats and cardigans etc .

it was quite fun and exciting to actually get down to designing but i did find some difficulty as there are so many garments to think about.

concepts _ designing

it is time to post everything i suppose . . .

anyway below is the mid layer and the outer layer concepts that i have done. just some quick sketches to get ideas flowing and some of them look like they could be finals and some of them need a lot of work .

developments _ spec drawing

developments _ organising outfits

this entire thing is starting to do my head in... so i've decided on pretty much all the individual garments of this collection, but was now time to put them together to form outfits. HOLEY MOLEY it's difficult ! i thought it would be quite straight forward, this with that and that with this but in all honesty... way harder than it sounds. maybe it was just me but who knows ?

anyway, below is a brief look at what is happening in my brain right about now. i have decided to contain eight outfits in my collection instead of ten. i may add two outfits if i can figure out the first eight to begin with. better to have a strong eight than a weak ten, if you know what i mean :]

concepts _ on hold

on hold doesn't mean, i'm not doing the designing and all the concepts... on hold just means that i will keep all the work i have done on my computer and won't post any of it until nearer to the date. i am doing this as i do not want to expose my current designs just yet and i guess you could say... have it be more of a surprise .

i will however be keeping you up to date with class exercises, fabric prototypes, concept boards etc, it's just the actual designing of garments which i will keep hush hush. i'm just typing all this out in case you might be wondering where i have gone, or if i have given up on the project .

don't worry :) i haven't . just hard at work ____

all will be revealed in a couple weeks time.

experimentation _ spec drawings

apparently we need to be good at drawing spec drawings so we spent the whole of class time drawing these. more importantly, they need to be drawn with a template so we were given one in class and the first image is it. average really, but the proportions are more-so correct so that is the one i shall use. but MORE importantly, they have to be accurate. fun times . . .

<3

experimentation _ knit

again just testing out the knitting and seeing what other styles can be achieved by a beginner. it's all quite exciting doing all of this .

it was difficult for me to make it looser at the bottom by adjusting the tension as i had never done anything like this before and because i didn't research techniques etc, i just jumped in the deep end with this one and i guess it was fine. it's all just learning at this stage anyway, and always better to do something and understand rather than to listen and just watch .

but what i found when i finished it off was the fact that even though i had loosened the tension... it still didn't supply me with the bigger holes that i had anticipated and dropping stitches was a bit too scary for me. might try next time .

but here are my results .
